The family that skis together...

A skiing family at a ski resort

…has a wonderful time! Back to Ski is all about starting to think about skiing well before the snow flies. Kind of like back to school, only with  cooler gear and teachers.

Who is behind Back to Ski?

My name is Mara and I’m a lifelong skier and winter enthusiast. My online Back to Ski campaign started in 2012 as a way to get families off the couch and on the slopes. I’m passionate about mountains, snow, and the joy of getting outside with your kids in the winter. My school-age sons also love skiing (I can still keep up with them – barely) and my Midwestern husband learned how to ski as an adult and hasn’t looked back.

On this website you’ll find tips on how to plan a family ski vacation, how to get your family geared up for winter sports, how to find great ski instruction, and what the best ski resorts are for families. You’ll also get information on some great preseason ski deals. During Back to Ski Week 2014 from September 23rd to September 27th, 2014 you can join the skiing conversation and enter to win fabulous prizes.

For even more ski fun and information, I hope you’ll join me on Facebook, Google +, Pinterest, and Twitter using the hashtag #backtoski to share deals, tips, or just to think snow.

I believe that skiing is the ideal family vacation, which is why I spoke about how to get families to the mountains at the 2013 Mountain Travel Symposium and why I also blog for the Ski Vermont All Mountain Mama website. You can also find me writing about family travel at my blog The Mother of all Trips and in The Family Traveler’s Handbook.

Editorial and advertising policy

I do accept advertising and sponsorships but I always disclose and links are no-follow.

From time to time I may make mention of a product or book that has the potential to make skiing with kids easier or better. If the product was sent to me for free, I always disclose that information.

I  take trips that are sponsored or paid for by ski resorts, or other tourist attractions. I always share when this is the case and am explicit about who paid for what. I also keep my writing relevant and honest so that you know you are getting a fair review. (That means sometimes I say I don’t like things. But I also say why.) And I’ll never accept money to plug a product, book, or destination.

Think you’ve got a product I’d like to use or place to visit that I’d like? Let me know – but please make sure it is relevant and relates somehow to skiing.

I also don’t exchange links with sites I don’t have a relationship with or publish guest posts from people I’ve never met before online or in person.
